A friend and and I took off after the fog cleared this morning and after 2 weeks off the water didn’t have a clue where to go, but luck was on our side. He did a great job of catching and we headed home before 2 pm to clean the catch. Thanks for a great day and sure glad we did not fish Sunday in 40 + mph winds.

Some of us stayed in Dilley Sunday and headed west early Monday morning for a great time on a blue quail hunt. We met at a ranch south of Marfa Tx Monday afternoon. No street lights at night, bright stars and you had to go 3-4 miles before getting phone service; just a few examples of how nice it was. If you haven’t been to Marfa, the country is really different, but beautiful in it’s on way, you can’t help but love it out there. We hunted Tuesday and Wednesday and got limits both days. We hunted the first day west and south of town, the Davis mountains were in the back ground of the landscape, just 1 ranch over from where we were (7-10 miles to bottom of mountains). The second day we hunted west of Ft. Davis, after the hunt we went into Ft. Davis and had lunch at a local cafe, the food was good. The folks that went are already trying to figure out when to do another hunt, but we have decided to do a 3 day hunt next time instead of a 2 day. If you don’t know where Marfa is, it’s 90 miles East of El Paso on Hwy 90. When we get a date set I will post up opening, the max is 9 people on this hunt with local outfitter. Thanks folks for making this a great hunt and looking forward to the next one.

Sorry more of you didn’t go on this hunt, Friday was windy 30-40 mph + gusts out of the north. It made for tough hunting, the birds were already in the field when we got there and the only way to get them up was by walking them up, despite the wind, we did good. One guy, his two sons and girlfriend from Florida came with us and it was the boys and girlfriends first dove hunt, they don’ t have dove in Florida or southern Georgia like we do. Saturday and Sunday turned out great, cold morning but warmed up nice and not a lot of wind. Everyone had plenty of birds to shoot at and they did a great job of hitting and finding birds. Thanks folks for making this a wonderful hunt.

Another great day on the water with a great couple from the Decatur area today. The morning started out a little foggy and windy but the fog cleared out and we got mostly cloudy but a nice calm day for fishing. The bite was slow but they did a great job of catching a mixture of fish.

Thanks folks for a great time and hope to see you again soon.

While most of you were eating turkey and enjoying family, I was out with 3 folks from China who are students at University of Texas and a repeat customer who put this together for them. This was their first bay fishing trip and they did a great job of learning how to cast and catch fish on free liner shrimp in deep water. The wind was a little high early but it calmed down as the morning went  along and made it a lot easier for them to enjoy and learn about fishing and the bays. They got a nice mixed bag of fish, one even got a 33” red that we released to live some more. Thanks folks for a great day and look forward to having you back again soon

A great time today with 2 repeat customers and a friend (this was his first bay fishing trip). Things started off wrong but we made it a great day anyway.  When I put the boat in I couldn’t get any water pressure, so thanks to my lovely wife coming and getting my boat, and a friend letting me us his we got it done. The wind was variable from west to south to northwest till about 11 or so, then the front came thru with a bang. The wind picked up and the bay went from calm to 2 1/2 footers in a few minutes. The guys managed to get a really nice box of fish, mixed kinds that kept them busy. Thanks guys for a great day on the water and look forward to doing it again.

A few years ago I did a trade a trip with a guy in Minnesota for a deer hunt, I for a 2 day cast and blast in Texas. He works with vets to I told him I was going to donate the hunt to Cystic Fibrosis for auction ( I fish a fund raiser every year for them in August). Any way to make a long story short, a month or so ago I get a call from a guy in 806 area code ( I think Lubbock), that he had bought the trip and wanted to send 2 combat vets down. We get the date set for this weekend and got a couple (married couple) from Dallas, he retired after 24 years, she is still in with 16 and both work for the VA, she is in Dallas and he is in Temple, and they were great. Weather turned cooler, Saturday we fished in the morning and duck hunted that after noon. As usual the wind was 20 mph + while we fished and started laying down that afternoon. We managed 4 nice keeper trout out of 18-20 and 5 undersided reds. We had a blue bird afternoon, that means no clouds and blue skies, ducks don’t fly and when they do they fly high. We watched several thousand red heads raft 400- 600 yards behind us, but luck was on our side and they got the red heads. Sunday we hunted the morning and still had blue skies and no wind, but they got some ducks in the last hour of the hunt. Fishing was still tough that afternoon but they did good, and got a nice mixed bag, 8 trout, pompano, Spanish mackerel, and she got her first bull red. Thanks folks for a great weekend and hope to have you back again soon. I want to thank you both for your service to our country and the support of the VA.
